They're not quite dead yet... take a look at this site, you'll see pictures of the hundreds and hundreds of electric car owners and their cars:

The technology used in General Motors' EV1 lives on in the Tesla electric sports car:

And the affordable, everyday EV is right around the corner. Here's an affordable, imported electric car that gets 200 miles per charge, and does 80 mph:

Check your electric rates. Where I live, I can drive my EV for about a penny per mile (I get about 4 miles per kilowatt-hour.) Gas is closer to 10 cents/mile and climbing. EVs also require NO engine maintenance. And newer battery designs (like in the Tesla, and the Miles car) last a long time - 100,000 miles or more without replacement. When you consider all these savings, you may find that you can spend more for a clean, quiet, and super-effcient EV, and still save money.

Ok, I admit an electric car wouldn't do if it was your only car. But most families have at least 2 cars anyway. I don't know why one of them couldn't be an electric. If it only goes 50 miles on a charge, so what? If it's 20 miles or less to work one way then you would go about your business all day and plug it in at night just like you do your cell phone. No gas, no pollution, no noise and almost no maintenance. What could possibly be impractical about that? The electric car could probably handle 75-85% of the normal driving most people do.

electric cars suck they are costly nonefficient & lack range automobile companies are making much more "green technology" cars as they see its the way to make profits in the future i personally like micro cars & plan on building some cool little cars using briggs & stratton engines that will get incredible gas milage if you wanna speak out about fuel waste & pollution look at the sky i saw a TV show about air shows this 1 show that is some where every weekend uses 30,000 gallons of fuel in 2 days for entertainment

There is a movie out about this.
www.sonyclassics.com/whokilledtheelectriccar/
Actually they worked pretty good for about 90% of driving conditions. While a traveling salesman wouldn't want one a daily commuter would. the car companies made them to satisfy California's zero polution mandate, and leased them out, but once they got Bush to overturn this they ground them all up out in the desert. There are now electric cars being produced that will blow the doors off of a fossil fuel powered car, but they are expensive. Here's a story about the Tesla roadster.

It's our country's addiction to oil thats creating the problem....New technologies like electric cars are a great idea.. But the costs for them don't seem reasonable when we can just use conventional engines to get around for much less...People today rather put the future aside and view it as now...cause no one really believes the theory of global warming...pathetic but true...this is what happens when your in a country with free speech...hope that explains it...

Right now everyone is pointing fingers at each other. Gov't says it's the technology. Big Oil says electrics aren't 'efficient enough' yet. No doubt they'll find them adequate once we run out of oil! Auto builders also claim that electrics aren't good enough yet.
Seems only the People really want ANY sort of electric, NOW. Unfortunately, only golf carts are allowed at the moment.

The electric car just didnt work out so well. IT couldn't drive long distances with out needing a recharge. It wasn't very speedy or stylish. It was an egineers nightmare. Thus the hybrid was born.
I'm sure they're still in the future, but they need a massive amount of work still.
