You can pull a toenail off without much injury (some temproary pain, but it heals and regrows).
Shells are more like our ribcage. In fact, a shell is a modified ribcage- a base of solid bone covered with several layers of other kinds of tissues. The modified ribcage is attached to the pelvis, shoulder girdle, etc. and has a spinal cord running through the vertebrae that are a part of the shell.
Removing the shell is like removing your spine, ribs, breast bone, and the skin covering it.

The turtles' ribs are attached to their shell, but the turtles' legs help its lungs to expand and the turtle to breathe. This is just one of the things that make the turtle so amazing!

A turtles shell is part of thier body and is even more part of them then our toenails are to us. If our toenails are removed it would be painful, but if a turtles shell is removed they will die. So, no.

No, you can lose a toe nail and live, the turtle comes out of it's shell it's dead.
That reminds me, if the turtle were to come out of it's shell, would it be naked or homeless?

yes, the shell is part of their skeletal structure and the spine is attatched to it, tissue and skin also attach it in many places.

good question! I don't know but I would imagine they are attatched otherwise the shell would have no way of growing. So I think they are all attatched.
