then to accompany it download spybot(http://www.safer-networking.org/) and adaware(http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/),these work well with avast and comlete a good all round security center

The first thing I would try installing is adaware personal, which is available by typing adaware into a google search and selecting the 3rd result. This will take you to a link with a big red button which says 'download now'

It will then link you to download.com and you can download the product from there. Run the installer package and at the end it will upgrade the definitions and run a full system scan. Once this has completed, delete any critical objects by ticking the box next to the objects in red and clicking next.
For free antivirus, do a google search for 'avg free edition'
Install and run this. It is a good product to use for free, although dont try to download it alongside another av.
Also try windows defender beta from the microsoft website, as this is good for stopping spyware from infecting your machine

I highly recommend AVG. There's a free version for home use which will do everything you need it to. Don't recommend Norton as only the Corporate version is really any good. The others have way too much overhead and are disabled with 2 (very easy) lines of VBA code anyway. Hope this helps.

Avast! (www.avast.com) is the best free AV software - it has a higher detection rate than Grisoft or Antivir's free solutions. However, I would recommend paying for NOD32, since paid-for solutions have better support than free programs. NOD32 has a higher detection rate than McAffee or Symantec.

first if can disconnect your internet

i mean take away the plug try to see if that message should appear again

if it does then you really have problem
but if it dont then it is a worm then you have download avg paid edition (trial off course) ewido antispywere you can find them by writing avg at google
update them both as fast as you can
then again disconnect and let them scan the entire computer
that should help

AVG is apparently the best free anti virus software you can get. I know a few people who have got rid of the software they bought in favour of this one.

Download and install this 100% free (without tech support) antivirus from Grisoft http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg71free_405a791.exe

You may also download the free spyware from the same organisation: http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/ewido-setup_4.0.0.172c.exe

I consider this antivirus the best free. I have used it for several years with much success. The latest free download version recommended above is excellent.

Nowadays most ISP' have their own virus scanners and protection software. Check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Or you can also go to these, they allow you a download and scanner and I believe they have a 30 day free trial you can purchase.

Virus scanners:
security.symantec.com/sscv6?langid=ie&venid=sym OR

http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/

Also if you don't already have one, get a spyware remover. I recomment Adaware SE Personal , they have a free version.

don't get any free anti-virus software, go and buy McAfee security centre for £25 or around $50.
you get virus killer, spam killer and a fire wall to protect your computer. you'll never have problems again i promise you that.
you can also track viruses with McAfee on a world map and see if your country is under attack from one or more viruses and you can set it to update when ever you want automatically.
