I've notice USA and ABC Family turn their commercials way up from the sound level of the program. Does this make you less likely to watch those networks, do you mute the commercials, or turn the channel when their commercials come on?

Networks I think turn up the volume to get your attention. What you need is called "Smart Sound." We have it on our TV. My TV has smart sound and it stops the TV from do that.

New Smart Sound that adjusts for sudden changes in volume . You can get this on new TV's

No, I do not change the channel. I just tape that show and then watch it and fast forward through the commercials.

I mute EVERY commercial. The commercials have more time than actual program content. It's annoying. I never watch 'regular' t.v. Even A&E, Discovery, etc. are more commercial now. It's too annoying.

Happens on all networks...excuse they give is program was recorded at a different level...they have no control of the volume...I think it's all B.S. myself, and the advertisers lose my business ( I make a note ) if commercial is WAY out of bounds, otherwise I just turn them down!

I have always wondered why it is so. I reduce the volume while watching commercials. TV channels should learn to send programmes and commercials in the same volume.

Definitely...has got to be the most annoying thing about cable TV
And the TV sets that have sound equalization circuitry ...it does nothing.
I think they should have a commercial channel and watching that would get you free movie channels.

This is a marketing strategy to catch your attention. All commercials do it. Tho, it kinda backfires, because in alerting you that it's a commercial, you can have the trusty mute button ready!!!

I think it's because the commercials are recorded at a higher volume (that's what my mom told me when I was a kid). Apparently it's illegal in foreign countries to do that.

I channel surf during commercials, so I never noticed.

So people all over the household can hear the commercial. It's completely annoying and unnecessary.

I channel surf.
