I've notice USA and ABC Family turn their commercials way up from the sound level of the program. Does this make you less likely to watch those networks, do you mute the commercials, or turn the channel when their commercials come on?

You will find that most common, as many stations intentionally raise the volume level on some commercials to make them stand out. Advertisers may also request a level rise or even create a commercial with a higher gain to catch the attention of the viewer. Another trick is to make the commercial as stupid, or nonsensical as possible, so you will remember it, even if it's to say: "That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen." There is no such thing as bad advertising, if you say anything good or bad about it, the key thing is you remembered it.

They do it cause most people get up or do something else during commercial break, they have studies that show the loud volume attracts attention to their product in hopes that you'll pay more attention and remember what they are selling.

I work for the cable company and it is just the way the channels broadcast their material.

If you had a digital box you wouldn't have this problem.

I've found some ads are more offensive than others in that regard. My personal bane is that friggin fitness made simple ahole. (Even with a digital cable box, btw.)
