At 40 I left a fairly well paying career to take some courses & start my own business. The strength comes from knowing that you are doing something to better yourself. Strength comes from knowing that if it does not work out like you plan you can always go back to what you were doing. Strength comes from no longer being miserable so many hours of the day. Strength comes from personal growth.

It's never too late to go back to school. A friend of mine started dental school at your age. Congrats for wanting to work hard to improve your life.
If you're single you shouldn't have too much trouble. Before you do, I would suggest first altering your lifestyle to the level it may be while you're in school to see if you can live with it. That would mean cutting back on a lot of activities that cost money like clubbing, movies, eating out, etc., and picking up some that are cheap or free. Then scaling back your apartment or getting a roommate, trading in an expensive car for something nice, but used and cheap.
If you have your family's support, all the better. Many people have done it. The strength is what you're willing to sacrifice for what kind of gain.

Ask yourself if you are going to be happier after you get your degree and move on to this other job. Weigh the pros and cons. Actually write them down on paper and look at them. I have left a full time job, took a part time job and went back to school. Wasn't an easy choice, but I did what felt right.

Life is too short to be unhappy. I think you could probably make it fine on a lesser paying job (and be happier) I did not go back to school but took a big step down when I went back to work after the children--I make far less, but I am happy.

I've honestly never done that. I am a senior in college, but I have met many people who have done just this. The strength comes from the drive to do it. What's life if you are just working to work? Wouldn't you rather work to do something you love? Money is only of monetary value, but life and the experiences you make from it our priceless.

If you hate your job, you owe it to yourself to find a career that is more fullfilling. I'm in the same boat, and I am currently applying to state colleges to obtain my degree. You just need to make the decision to leave. You need to consider your future and your happiness.

You just have to realize that happiness is more important than having money. I did it and I live modestly...
