My fiance is a redhead and my brother is a redhead, so the gene is running through both sides of the family. What are the chances that she'll come out as a little carrot top?

Red heads are the rarest type of hair color. It depends on what your hair color is. The slightest change in the gene will cause the baby to have a different hair color. Example: If you have blonde hair and your fiance has red hair, the baby will have blonde hair, simple biology. If you have a blood related relative that has red hair and you don't,you need to move to your parent's hair.

Without genetic testing theres no real way to say. Brown is the dominate gene, and red is recessive, but theres always that possibility since its on both sides of the family.

Beside that, even if she's born with red hair its likely it will change to a different shade or even color by the time she's a toddler.

I was born with coal black hair, but i was a blond child, and now i have brown hair.

I was a red head (eventually turned brown :( ) and my paternal great grandfather was also red headed. I knew for SURE that at least one of my two boys would be a carrot top, but alas, they're both blondies. I really don't know, honestly. The only thing I know is the brown is a dominant gene (for both hair and eyes), and I'm brown haired/hazel eyed, and both of my kids are blue-eyed blondies.

Red headed babies are SO cute! Esp. if they have freckles. :)

It depends on your family. There is always a chance. My parents were brown and black haired. I married a redhead, I am a redhead, and I have 3 kids that all have red hair. My sister was red as a child and darkened to brown in adulthood. Her husband is dirty blonde. Their child is light brown with no red highlites at all. Red runs in our family, but usually it only shows in men's beards in our Dad's side. My husband's brother was also a red that darkened as he aged. He married a brown and they have a white blonde and a dirty blonde. So its totally random. You'll not know until you have kids.

you never really know. if the gene is dominant than it will probably be a redhead but it all just depends.

i'd say the chances are pretty good, but hey my uncle was a carrot top till he was 3, then his hair turned a dark brown/red. Good luck!
