Sure, there are negative effects. Perhaps there are latent self-esteem issues brought on by what some blacks think they're "supposed" to feel about race relations. Memories and stories can be passed from generation to generation, but I'm not sure these things can be "corrected." We should always try to remember our history, both the good and the bad, and try to prevent repeating mistakes (such as slavery).
However, we also need to remember that no one alive today is responsible for the slavery that existed here.

After slavery was over, many African Americans ended up in the inner city where crime & poverty escalated due to the prejudice of white people & low unemployment. It was hard to get out of that rut once in it, and still many live in the inner city.
People can become hopeless and resigned, and pass that on to their kids, and then they pass it on to their kids....
I think a major problem facing black Americans is a lack of quality leadership within the black community (I mean, there is leadership - just not enough) and a lack of good role models - and also ingrained prejudice/ racism that is like a vicious cycle.
I'd really recommend Toni Morrison's novels to you if you want to find out more about this kind of stuff. Especially "The Bluest Eye", "Sula", "Beloved", "Paradise."

I do not use being black as a crutch, i am not a criminal,I am not in poverty..
I do have alot of self esteem problems, most of them having to do with constantly being called a "****-er" though out my life, and having a certain race snub their nose at me..but there's nothing I can do but work my very hardest constantly, knowing that if i ever slip up everyone will just say "Humf, see i told you see couldn't do it b/c she's a "****-er" and that is why I cry.
i don't hate any1 for this it's just the way things are and always will be.

I cannot believe all those years after slavery that BLACK people are still being referred to as 'coloured'. We are black. Please call us that. We really really don't mind.
I do think that the negative effects of slavery will stay with us for as long as there is racism in the world. All this lets live together in love and harmony is rubbish. Institutionalise racism exist in lots of large corporate companies. The colour of our skins will always be an issue whether we want to admit it to ourselves or not.

Example: Some blacks today think they are better then other blacks...they think that they are "different". Like the chick who said that blacks are lazy...was she talking about herself ...or just "the other blacks" Self-hatered?
Example:
We really look down on each other. We never build each other up.
Example:
We generally think that white is better, though many will not admit that this is true.
Example:
Why would black men marry fat white women but those same men would never date fat black women?

Yes there are. Black people still live by the "color code" Still, lighter African Americans are being treated better than the darker ones or vice versa.

yes but i don't have real life examples just ideas and here say. there are still people living that had to live through segregation and they sometimes pollute others views about other races. i think nothing is being done to fix it just people are trying to love and respect all people

The colored people need to accept the fact and move on. They were slaves then they were freed. Stop using what happened hundreds of years ago as a crutch and an excuse to live as a criminal or in poverty.

To put it simply, past generations affect future generations. It is extremely hard to break the life cycle of being poor and uneducated, one which continues with each generation.
