the citronella plant is usually the most effective, however there is a lemon scented geranium that does the trick. Most people will have 1 or 2 planters on their patio and it keeps the mozzies away.

Yes. Bats. Put bat houses out. One bat will eat hundreds of insects in a night. A whole colony will help immensely. People are afraid of bats but they really are very little threat. Do some research on the web. There are a lot of sites devoted to this. It may take some time to draw a colony to your yard but you should be able to find plans for a bat house on the web and information on how to draw a colony. It is a natural way to control the population without poison. They are nocturnal creatures so you won't even see them during the hours that most people are out.
And the obvious is to not leave standing water in your yard anywhere.

You have to treat any standing water with a larvacide like Mosquito Dunks . Dunks have proven their value in destroying Mosquitoes - by killing the larvae before they mature into biting adult pests, if you can get rid of standing water, like in old tires and stuff it will help alot. Bird baths and ponds are a big source and can be treated safely wih mosquito dunks as well. They won't hurt pets, birds or other wildlife, but a detrimental to mosquitos. Get some and you'll be rid of mosquitoes for the whole season

a citronella plant or citronella oil spray. It might be a good idea to invest in a bat house; according to instructions you place it facing south...It didn't take hardly any time before 2 bats occupied our bat house, I noticed an immediate reduction in misquitoes in our area, as there are alot of swampy areas, & small lakes at our cottage. They eat hundreds of thousands of misquitoes, naturally! I hope this helps.

Venus fly traps, don't leave old tires and children's play things outside and collect rain, keep you're yard groomed, and be sure not to have damp dark places near your house that you could be in or around because that's what they like.

obtain several old tires, and stand one in each corner of the yard. be sure each one has some old, stagnant water in it. they hate that, and your problem will be solved
