Alfred Hitchcock seemed to have a fascination with birds, supposedly as symbols of chaos. Remember all of the stuffed birds all over Norman Bates' motel office in "Psycho"? I recall reading that the state of the birds in "The Birds" had to do with life being "out of balance" or out of control.

I suspect it was because there were two caged birds. In the beginning of the movie Hitchcock makes point in scene where the two caged birds are taken out from a car for all to see. I'm not sure if I am recalling correctly but aren't the two caged birds freed at the end of the movie and all the birds cease their attack?

I don't remember that very important question being explained in the movie, but it was still a great movie by the master filmmaker, Alfred Hitchcock.

Good question. Problem is, nobody knows. Old Alfred probably didn't know either. His movies are crappy like that.
