I think I would only kill if I were protecting a victim from imminent danger. I don't believe any other cause than the protection of the innocent is cause for killing, and that would be called murder.

Self-defense is the first and best answer. Pre-emptive life termination of terrorists seems like a good thing as well.

No cause can justify murder.
Self-defense of the group or the individual may, but it's controversial, and all other alternatives should be explored before.
