Yes, \
Thomas Hobbes (April 5, 1588–December 4, 1679) was an English philosopher, whose famous 1651 book Leviathan set the agenda for nearly all subsequent Western political philosophy.
Although Hobbes is today best remembered for his work on political philosophy, he contributed to a diverse array of fields, including history, geometry, ethics, general philosophy and what would now be called political science. Additionally, Hobbes's account of human nature as self-interested cooperation has proved to be an enduring theory in the field of philosophical anthropology.

To me the only prevailing influence of Hobbes on our current world is the acceptance that we still need some type of civil government, or social contract, to maintain our society from chaos.
Our moral life, therefore, will always dwell within a established set of rules.

It's not so much that Hobbes has directly influenced our modern moral perspectives I think as much he influenced the thinkers that came after him. Who knows about 'Leviathan' these days? Like any discipline, philosophy is built on prior contributions - if you're looking for somebody who still wields a powerful influence on modern (European and American, anyway) social thought, I'd go Locke.

This question going to be on the test? He was a materialist and the spiritual body of a person, from Hobbes' 17th century viewpoint, dies when the physical body dies. He was not even around when OXYGEN was finally put on the elemental chart. Wow, give him a break!
