If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following video:

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.
What do you think?

Sorry for reposting the question. The previous statistics (which I copied from a lousy website), were incorrect. These are the correct ones.
It's still shocking.

No, I found it a propaganda statement. I fin that such little films do little more then separate people more then they are.
Sorry, but the film shows little insight into anything, other then data and stats.

This video is ridiculous. You can't reduce the Earth's population to a symbolic 100 and expect the numbers to remain logical. For example: are you telling me that of the 6 people who own 59% of the wealth, only 3 of those 6 have a computer? See what I mean? Are the 6 people who own 59% of the wealth among the 7 who were educated to the secondary level? What happened to #7? This is a meaningless, illogical propaganda exercise.
Don't be fooled.

I am humbled and deeply touched by this, and yet I am not surprised. I live in a country (South Africa) where:
"Sub-Saharan Africa has just over 10% of the world’s population, but is home to more than 60% of all people living with HIV—25.8 million. In 2005, an estimated 3.2 million people in the region became newly infected, while 2.4 million adults and children died of AIDS." (www.unaids.com).
The most successful business to have in my country is one that organises funerals. It is tragic. There is a DIRE need for everyone, in every country, to look beyond themselves, to put things in perspective. And this is what I think the miniature earth project is helping to do/

Anything that helps us see past our own day to day lives is insightful. The fact that some refer to it as "propaganda" shows their own closed-mindedness, I think. All facts and figures do not have to be accurate to show us that it's time to think and time to act if we want to change our world.
I recently went to see Bill Clinton speak and he had three questions for us ...
1. How do you see the world in 50 years?
2. What would it take to get us there?
3. Who's going to do it?
I wasn't a huge Clinton fan, but found his questions probing and thought-provoking. He also had some interesting ways that we can all help, if we just stop intellectualising everything and DO IT.
We are a global village ... we are every man.

The statement that this is a tendency and does not reflect actual statistics was enough to make me see it as conjecture and not based on facts.
I agree it is more propaganda. If you didn't already know that poverty exists in this world,in this country, you have to have been living under a rock somewhere.

Already was aware of most of the info, but it still makes me feel sick to watch it. It also makes me want to sell all my posessions and join the Sisters of Mercy.

Somewhat.....I must have missed the count on those who wish to control and/or destroy others. One does not have control over what another desires. And $$$ isnt the answer to solve the world problems.
