Arent the Americans weird with theyre answers, they never leave the usa so probably dont even know there is a place called Turkey. We have been to Turkey 9 times in the last 20 years and going again in 2 weeks .It all depends how old you are as to where you would like,if your young marmaris is the place for you ,or Bodrum which has a 24 hr disco and loads of night life.My kids are in theyre 20's and they like Altinkum.I can honestly say we have not been to any resort we didnt like and we
ve been to quite a few, though not Gumbet.

This is my 2nd year working in Turkey & my job involves visiting each resort, so I've seen most. I'm not really keen on the main tourist haunts; Marmaris, Gumbet, Altinkum etc. as they just cater for mass tourism, with all the associated hassle and property sales. Places that I like are; Fethiye, although thats going the same way as Marmaris & Altinkum, Dalyan for a relaxing holiday & fantastic beach and other smaller resorts like Kemer & Belek. If you liked Marmaris, then try Alanya, it's also a large resort, but the beach is much better and you won't get as much hassle from the shops, bars or restaurants. Interestingly, Marmaris has a campaign this year called 'No Hassle', so they're obviously realising that the majority of visitors don't want or need to be persuaded where to eat or shop by their new best friend...!!

Turkey has some of the most wonderful ancient Greek sites. What about spending a few days in a hired car travelling down (or up) the Aegean coast, Ephesus, Priene, Didyma, Miletus, Troy ... - perhaps do some in-depth reading beforehand, including Homer's Iliad?

Depends on how old you are. We went to Foca on the west coast. It was not expensive and very interesting. We paid one of the boat owners to take around the Siren Island. Lots of small restaurants along the pier with fresh seafood caught that day. After a few days there we went to the Salt Travertines. One of the most amazine places I have ever seen. The cliffs look like they are covered by fresh snow, but are really salt. No one believed the photos we took.

Hi, I WENT TO BODRUM ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO WITH MY TWO TEENAGE DAUGHTERS AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.. IT'S A VERY LIVELY PLACE AT NIGHT SO IF YOU LIKE YOUR SLEEP BETTER TO STAY A LITTLE OUT OF THE MAIN CENTRE...I SUPPOSE IT DEPENDS ON HOW OLD YOU ARE. BODRUM HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, CULTURALY...SHOPPING..NIGHTLIFE..IT'S A PORT SO LOTS OF BOAT EXCURSIONS....THE ONLY THING IT LACKS IS A SANDY BEACH BUT YOU ONLY HAVE TO TRAVEL ABOUT 10 MINS UP THE COAST FOR THAT. SO ALL IN ALL I WOULD GIVE BODRUM THE THUMBS UP.
