When I open up my computer, I do not see the ipod icon but I know my laptop recognizes it.
I only have a few songs in my laptop but a lot more in the main pc(which are in my ipod). If I plug in my ipod, im scared all my songs will get erased.

I don't fully understand the question, but here is an answer broken into 2 parts:

GETTING MP3 FILES OFF AN IPOD AND ONTO A HARD DRIVE

Basic prob. is that the actual MP3 files ('hard data') cannot generally be downloaded from your iPod to the computer. (A lot of people take off the headphones and ask me, 'hey, that's a cool song. Can you put it on my PC?' and I have to explain - 'well, no, not right now - I can't do so directly.')

a. The software method

Useful apps called IPodRip or PodWorks (or their Windows equivalents - I'm a Mac man!) will transfer all the songs straight from your iPod to the laptop, and also update iTunes.

b. iPod as HDD method (sounds hard, will take less than 10 min)

Plug Pod into PC.

Make sure your Pod is enabled as a hard disc (Go to iTunes Prefs > iPod on your PC, and click the tab to enable it.)

Then, drag and drop your iTunes Music Library (your MP3 collection) into the iPod window. Use My Computer or 'Find..' to locate it, if you're on a PC. All the files will copy into the Pod.

Unplug the Pod, go to laptop, and plug it in. Now, double-click the iPod icon, locate your recently-copied iTunes Music Library, and drag it onto the desktop.

Fire up the laptop iTunes.

Create playlists if you like, then drag and drop your iTunes Music Library files into the playlist window. Arrange according to taste.

Your laptop now has basically the same MP3 files as your PC.

THE 'ERASE PROBLEM'

Shouldn't happen. When a Pod is switched away from its 'home base' to another computer, ITunes will prompt you whether you want to overwrite (i.e. laptop files 'kill off' the PC files). Just click 'no'.

You PC dont detects your iPod, hmm... be sure that you plug the USB cable properly, and do use a USB 2.0 data cable, thats what iPod requires. Often the other data cables dont works.

And dont get scared, your songs wont get erased unless or until you erase them yourself.

And if you want to trasfer all your songs from iPod to PC (or vice versa) you can use 'iTunes' for this purpose (if you are using a Windows OS). But if you are using a Macintosh machine you can do it directly, without any software.

you are able to no longer circulate songs from the Ipod to a source. the only thank you to do it is that in case you take care of the Ipod like a USB and drag each and every of the songs rapidly onto the Ipod icon on your computer. Then open it up on your new computer.

I don't think this is possible unless it can be used as a flash drive.
