Well if you have the 802.11 Then all you will need to do is run the program. You should be able to run it now and scan for networks around your house. If you live in town with lots of neighbors, You should be able to pick something up with it. just run the program, and then scan for networks. If it don't find any, try moving to the other side of the house.

I have a usb adapter, and all I needed to do was to run the program Belkin, as thats the manufacture that makes this kind. If your having problems finding something to run it. Try to set up a wireless connection in the network connections in the control panel. Then do the scan...

If its running Windows then Peer to Peer wireless is painful. So in most cases you will need an access point. Purchase a cheap access point that is b/g compatible. Then get a decent (not cheap) wireless dongle.

If you want wireless internet you can either plug in the access point or purchase a wireless dsl router.

If your campus, dorm room, or library is equipped for wireless access you should be set hardware wise, you just need to configure your computer to connect to the schools wireless network.
Your school should have a IT help desk number you can call for assistance configuring your computer.
Best of luck.

Try start menu (lower left), then "connect to," "show all connections." Then try testing each of the icons. One should be for the wireless Internet.

So you want to have a wireless connection betwen your laptop and the internet?.... Get the provider to give that info. They normally charge and we have to remember that when buying.

It sounds like you are good to go. In order for you to get connected to the internet, you have to be near a signal.
Most libraries have routers that send a wifi signal.
