As of January this year, in India which is home to 40% of the world's tigers, there were approx 3,500 - so approx 8,000 left in the entire world!
Assuming of course that few have been killed for their fur between January and now

There are approximately 3500 left in the wild, each of them divided into five subspecies. I believe the rarest is the Southern Chinese tiger, of which I read there are only 20, that's right, 20, left in existence. Of course my source may have been wrong.
The reason why they're so close to endangerment is of course because of the illegal fur trade and also ancient Chinese medicine. No part of a tigers anatomy was left unused.
However of the few tigers left the Siberian and Bengali tigers are the most common.

There are five tiger subspecies left out of the original eight. Current estimates range between 5,000 to 7,500 tigers are left in the wild today. There is no way of telling how accurate these numbers are and it's feared that the actual number of tigers in the world today is much lower

According to Wikipedia there are now only about 5,000 tigers worldwide and they are an endangered species.
Just a century ago, there were approximately 100,000 tigers.

This is a serious situation, so perhaps we should all be doing something to help.
Anyone interested could contact this site:

Hope this helps:>)
