Well I personally think that to keep fit at all times would save you some grief from the initial pains of starting over, Also to stay in shape would give you an advantage at the start of the season,,
maybe and I mean just maybe the guy you compete with is out of shape,,

Good luck,

I am a runner also, but i'm a junior in high school. You really need to make sure that if you do take time off like that, that you don't push it too hard to start off. I made that mistake and ended up not being able to run at all from a stress fracture. Taking time off isn't always a good thing if nothings wrong. I would definitely be training over the summer. It's one of the most challenging times to train because it's so hot. Then when fall comes and it's time for XC then it's like a piece of cake. So bottom line I really think you should train over the summer.

Well, it would have been better to train the entire summer, but what you have done is better than nothing. Maybe you can enter a 5k race next weekend so that you can get a better idea what kind of shape you are in.
Truthfully, most of my teammates in cross-country took the whole summer off and began their training when school started and they all did okay. I think I got more serious about training during the summers before my junior and senior years. That was because my coach said that he would buy running shoes for anyone who trained during the summer and kept a journal. My friend and I were the only ones who did it!

It's a good idea to take a little time off between seasons. however, one or two weeks is a better idea. 2 monthes is a little long.

Your summer base determines your XC peak. The more training you do, the faster you will run. I am pretty sure Joe Newton (Legendary coach of Elhmurst (IL) York High School, a national title contending team every year) has a book out on high school running training/coaching. I'd recommend hunting it down if you can.
