At the risk of occupying the cross next to yours, I think you have a very valid point, and you're not alone in your thinking. Reverse racism is not a new concept, but with all the racial tension that still exists today, people are afraid to even approach the subject.
The black community has many, many things in place today that the white community could never get away with: black history month, African studies sections in libraries, the United ***** College Fund and other similar charities, television networks, etc. If the white community attempted anything similar, it would certainly be called racist, and a court would order that it be accessible to the black community.
Most other minorities have assmilated themselves into society better than the black community. This could be due to the fact they are not "black," or that they were not persecuted to the same degree blacks were, but the net result is the same. Irish and Italian are two ethnicities that were both shunned when they first started arriving in the United States, and both groups have assmilated into society completely since.
I believe that a large segment of the black community has leveraged its history of persecution to surpass gaining equality, and instead secure a "protected" position in society. They enjoy the separation that still exists because in many cases it grants them privileges and benefits not available to non-black society. The exclusive charities and associations mentioned above are among these benefits. A white person cannot challenge a black person's words or actions without running the risk of being called racist, and the black community knows it.
Honestly, to be considered completely equal, and nothing more, would be a step backward for the black community at this point.

I am a "white" person(but with the grace of a tanning bed am actually a very nice tan shade)and I have no objections to any TV station dedicated to black,Hispanics or any other group. There are stations dedicated to only Christan religious groups, and although I an agnostic,I hold no resentment.I often watch BET to listen to some of my favorites on the program called,"Music for grown folks" I grew up with the old school songs and still love them.
You are free to watch what ever you like no one comes to your house and restricts any channel for "black"viewing only,Bravo is in Spanish but if you speak it watch, but no one makes you watch it or restricts your TV that you cant.
This is a question that is answerable very easily,I see nothing wrong with others having stations or programs that reflect their culture or point of view.
We "whites" have all the major outlets on TV already why do we need more. And before I begin to sound too liberal lol I am against any illigel immigration, but welcome all that are legel.
The separation of the races is in actuality a fallacy encouraged by the people that want that to be reality, watch how quickly people of all races and cultures come together as one nation in a time of disaster such as Katrina. All people sent help, money, clothing.opened their hearts and homes to the victims, the only entity slow in responding was our republican government.
remember that in your mid term elections and in 2008.

I don't feel people should be offended when every since television was invented, blacks didn't appear on screen unless they were playing slave or servant roles. Whites still dominate on screen today. There will be a movie full of A-list actors and actresses and one black will get a role like Denzel Washington or Halle Berry. If television and Hollywood would mainstream on their own more often, producers and writers would not feel forced to come up with shows geared towards just certain audiences that appeal more to certain races than others. I think human nature is that people like to see others that reflect themselves anyway. Do many white people really connect with the comedy of Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, Monique and Steve Harvey? Do blacks see themselves as Jennifer Anniston, Brad Pitt and Jessica Simpson? I don't think so. But its not like the television specifically states that you can't watch BET if you're not black. If whites are offended about this, then I think men should be offended about Lifetime TV. Television is just what it is, TV, entertainment! It's not real life anyway, it's just to entertain those who are interested.

"If there was a network for whites only would white people be called racist???????? "
No, it's be called CBS.
Oh but wait, CBS does have Dennis Haysbert now which actually places them light years beyond ABC, NBC and FOX. Aren't you more disturbed by the lack of lead roles on television for anyone else other than white males? Don't you think that people who would like some variety in their television viewing have a right to see that? Minorities do not have the clout to steer the major networks towards presenting a more balanced view of the world and instead of suffering, some have sought other outlets. By the way, BET is owned by Viacom so really it is a white network. TvOne is owned by a group of investors, notably among them Comcast. Sorry, not seeing how white people can be offended by the programming they are serving up.

I think that these networks were started primarily because most of the other channels on TV were mainly geared towards white middle class America. Look at most of the shows on in the nineties and before, there were hardly any black people on these shows and when they were they were always type casted.

It sounds as though you are racist. As far as your question I see no problem with some channels geared toward certain people. If you look at the majority of shows, most of them are geared toward whits. The way the people talk, the way they live. I mean come on are you living in a bubble? So in other words because the white race is more subtle in gearing their programming toward their race it doesn't matter? With all the racism and hatred in the world they really don't need any more fuel added to the fire. If they want their own station who cares.

Since whites are the majority most programming is geared to them. The black channels, like men channels, women channels, fishing channels, etc are geared to a specific audience. Hope this answers your question.

How about Black history, Black beauty pagents, Lots and Lots of stuff is ONLY black.
Should I resent it for not letting MY race be invited? Or, should I make "white" history month, etc. etc. etc. It started out to instill pride, but now it is just ramanama...
Yeah, some mindless jerk WILL say you are a racist, but they are only the ones who cannot think for themselves. They are just programed to say the speech.
I'm with you - EVERYTHING should be for EVERYBODY! It is way past time for the world to GROW UP!!

Because it works, simply stated. If they found a niche that brings in money for the network, why shouldn't they exploit it? Look at cartoon network, they air commercial that appeal to kids, kids watch the cartoons, kids pay attention to the commercials, kids torment mom and dad to buy what they see on commercials, people make money. They are just appealing to a market.
