The baby dropping and dilation shows labor will be soon, but it all depends on your body, when things are ready to happen they will. I had two baby girls, the first one never dropped much at all and the second was so low for almost two weeks! Your doctor will keep an eye on the dilation at your visits and explain when to call and get to the hospital. At this point is is best to be ready to go at any time. Well hope this helps and congratulations on the new baby :)

There is no set-in-stone answer to this one - my daughter just gave birth last week and the baby dropped about a month before. She was having small contractions for over a month (braxton-hicks) and was dilated to 4 cm for over a week and a half before they finally broke her water and delivered the baby on the 11th. Consider your due date, too - you could have another week or two as well.
Best advice: make sure your bags are packed and give the must-know people a heads-up but don't have them on 24/7 stand-by or when the time comes, it'll be a case of "crying wolf". Let them know you'll call and give the green light after going to the doctor's and having the doctor send you to the hospital.
Best course of action: arrange one person to start a phone calling tree for you so you don't have to worry about spreading the word. Concentrate on getting the baby's room ready for the new arrival and getting everything else to a point where you won't have to do a lot your first few days/week home. Good luck!

All pregnancy is different. With my daughter I dropped and it was a few days and then I had her With my son I dropped a month before I had him. There are other symptoms you should watch for. Have you nested, had a big spurt of energy for about 1-3 days I was gardening for 2 days before I had my son. Also have you lost your mucus plug? It is exactly what it sounds like it almost looks like rubber cement remember the glue we used to use in elementary school? I could have some blood in it. The difference between braxton hicks contractions and real contractions is real ones will start in your back and radiate around to the front, they will be noticably more painful and will progress in intensity. Instead of just being a tightening it will have some pain with it. To help your labor come about try walking ALOT and have alot of sex. My doc suggested this when I went in at 41 weeks and I walked all day around the block (with my husband) and we had sex 2x and that night my water broke. Good Luck! Labor is not as bad as everyone says it is. Relax and concentrate if you get nervous your muscles won't help you push the way you need to. You will do great! LOL

Every delivery and labor is different there are no 2 births alike. If this is your first usually you loose your mucus membrane(I call it a plug) its a lot like uncooked eggwhite when you loose it. usually labor starts within 24hrs. usually contractions have to be consistant and you dialate to 3 before hospital will admit you unless your water breaks . Good luck sounds like it won't be to much longer.

You poor thing! I know just how you feel. Try to be patient. When baby is ready, he/she will let you know. Try taking lots of walks and if you start feeling regular contractions, baby is probably ready. My baby wasn't born until two weeks after I lost my plug and my contractions never did come regular. My real contractions were as irregular as braxton hicks. Just keep a smile on your face and remember...wiggle your toes when you go into labor!!!! It has a magical effect. :-)

Sometimes you can drop weeks before you give birth, it isn't always that way but sometimes you drop a while before you give birth and sometimes not long after you drop. It varies for everyone.
