Most obviously the black cultures of the time. Consider the Egyptian and other north African cultures that predated the European nations at becoming "civilized" by thousands of years. By some estimates, the Sphinx is 10,000 years old. Even just 2,000 years ago, the time of Christ, Europe was populated by nothing more than barbarian tribes.
