Because it's a popular item. The more popular it becomes the higher the price. If you invented something and put it on the market, your going to sell it cheap to see if anyone will buy it, and if it became so popular that everyone has to have it, your going to raise the price so you can make a profit. It's all about money.

If your statement is true (and you would have to post your proof for me to think it is) then the reason is simple.

"Three times as many younger women are buying sanitary belts in the past three years."
