If you believe that all life forms are fundamentally information-based, and if you believe that the brain is a Turing machine, both reasonable but not proven assumptions, then it follows that the brain can run any of the programs on which any life form is based. Right now your brain is running the program that makes you you, but there is no known reason why it can't run the program that makes me me. Indeed perhaps your brain has enough resources to do both at once.
If you also assume that our brains can reverse engineer the programs that are other people -- and we do something like that every time we imagine what Alice or Bob would do in this or that situation -- then you have all the pieces you need to make a real ghost. Imagine that Alice knows Bob well enough to be able to generate the program that is Bob. When she runs that program in her brain she interacts with a version of the real Bob, whether the original Bob is alive or dead. If he is dead, you could say that Alice is interacting with Bob's ghost, and you'd be close enough.

We have rapists and murderers and drug dealers, robbers and lots of other sick and weird people, why not ghosts and evil spirits, evil spirits maybe responsible for the bad that goes on in the world. Whether Heaven or Hell exists no one can ever say for sure.

I reckon all sorts of weirdy things exist on different plains to us and sometimes they cross over just a little and we see them. And of course, where there's good, there's evil, but word of advice, don't get yourself tangled up in finding out any more, keep focussed on your own life - if you see one, you see one, it won't change your life much either way. You'll still have to get up for work the next morning.. it might just be a bit harder to get yourself to sleep again that night!

The only way you will personally know if ghosts exist is if you have seen one with your very own eyes not via the media that uses photoshop for fancy effects in order to fool us - I've never seen one, nor I suspect have you, so I think we both should conclusively decide that they don't exist.

Some people believe that if you don't believe in God or Jesus, then you will not go to heaven when you die. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is we probably have unbelieving spirits among us.
