I don't know when it was made, the characters names or if it was animated or not. The only thing I know is that it was a movie about a mermaid & the when she went to see the witch to become a human the witch cut her tongue out. It was not Disney or Hans Christian Anderson's the Little Mermaid. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I used to watch it when I was little, so I asked my mom & step-mom. They both said that it sounded familiar, but couldn't remember a name. I also asked my dad, but he didn't remember it at all.

It's the original version of the Little Mermaid. I have it in an old fairy tale book that my grandmother used to read to me. The older fairy tales were very graphic and Disney toned them down.

I think that is Hans Christian Anderson's the Little Mermaid. Only I think it maybe the Russian adaptation The Little Mermaid (1976).

One of the earliest animated films, based on the fairytale, was the Soviet one, entitled Rusalochka (The Little Mermaid), which was released in 1968. In 1976 a live action film, entitled Rusalochka, a joint production by the USSR and Bulgaria, was released.

Are you confusing yourself ? This must be "The Little Mermaid" only. I remember vaguely the name of this Mermaid was "Pearl", daughter of King Neptune and she falls hopelessly in love with a human and sacrifices all to win his love....etc..etc. Please check with elders of your family. But I am confident.

but that is the story of the lil mermaid...the only other movie i can think of was splash....but that mermaid turns human without meetin a witch

its tyhe LIl' mermaid. because when she goes on land she cant talk at all the sea hag took out her voice but then when the guy she liked fell in love with her she got it back.
