Depends.
Mac seems to have the edge in Multi-media applications.
Windblows - oops, I mean Windows... is the more POPULAR platform, and therefore has hundreds of times the number of applications that will run on that OS, without emulators.
Then there are EMULATORS which allows you to run the programs of ONE on the OTHER...
This answer is a bit like saying WHICH is the best CAR: BMW or Mercedes. The right answer, depends on your preferences, not mine.

If you like ancient interface look at MAC's. All the great looks and feel of windows (pre-95) with better color scope and resolution.
Myths.
"Macs are better for multi-media, Graphics and such"
B.S. There is NOTHING native to Macs that make them better for either. It's applications. With cakewalk, soundforge, quark, and photoshop on windows there is no benefit here.
"Macs are more secure, no viruses"
B.S. Why is there antivirus software for macs? Exactly.
Search for HACK-A-MAC and you'll see root level control was gained in less than a half an hour on a mac.
With known exploits that Apple hasn't patched.
Don't even get me started on Linux. I've supported Red Hat since v5.5 . I've ran many other distros as well.
Not very friendly to novice users..
Bottom line:
Macs cost more (way more) and have proprietary (MUST go through apple for parts) hardware.
PC's are cheaper, more compatible. As you progress you can change you OS like changing a lightbulb.
*Though with intel chipsets and processors in new macs you can run windows now.
Speaking of which, Mac users always said their motorola processors were so much faster but Apple changed up and said they were unable to keep up on system speeds. HMMMM....
Get what you need and are willing to pay for. consider all options don't be fooled by the sheep.
Enjoy.
I know I have to now quilify my statements.
I current have a PC running Red Hat Enterprise server (intranet server), Windows 2000 server (DC), Windows 2003 server (member server) with Mandrake running via Virtual PC, I-Mac running OS X Tiger (WS), Many XP Workstations on my HOME network.
Mac printing to shared printers sucked.

Graphics professionals always seem to use MAC. Those of us who wanted lots of programs that were easily transferred used windows. That was in the early days but generally set people's preferences. Apart from designers etc. Windows seemed to be the choice for most everyday businesses. MAC is making itself more accessible these days. Microsoft Windows (every time they upgrade their operating system) seems to be poorly developed and they treat their users as the lowest common denominator with little intelligence. I am forced to use Windows but dislike it, MS Office and especially MS Word intensely.

Both, depending on what you want them for. The Mac is very slick looking, the MacOS also is very nice, but if you do a lot of business with different parties, you might find some software that you require that is only available for Windows.

Have no doubt, iMacs reign supreme. The Apple OS-X system beats Windows all to pieces too. Macs are virtually immune to viruses. Sure they're expensive, but well worth it.
