People are fanboys for certain brands. The performance of both companies chips go back and forth. The Athlon64 beat out the Pentium 4, but now the Intel Conroe Core2 beats out the Athlon 64. It's a cycle that works for the best since consumers get faster chips as a result of the competition.

AMD is a little more expensive and have a lower clock speed. But they have better support for programs and are faster for thir intel counterparts, But it all comes down to personal opinion. And, Budget.

For me, it is just personal experience. An old AMD Athlon 1500 GHz running Win98 on my machine beats my wife's newer Intel running XP in just about all categories as far as boot, program starts, web browser and shutdown. I don't know if it is the XP. I do appreciate the convenience of XP but I despise the fact that my scanner has no driver available to hook up to her machine.

They say it is better because even though it has a slower clock speed than Intel, it can run much faster, open apps and games much faster, and is way easier to overclock it and gets way better speeds when overclocking.
