I don't think that Jimmy Carter has lost his mind. Instead, I believe Jimmy Carter by nature is a pacifist and an idealist. During his term as the President of the United States, terrorists seized the US Embassy in Iran. The terrorist held close to 100 hostages. After an entire year, Jimmy Carter was able to negotiate a deal with the terrorists. He paid billions of dollars to Iran for the release the hostages. Americans were demoralized and it was open season for terrorism against the US. One of the most powerful nations in the world was being bullied. Well, his term ended and Ronald Reagen became President of the US. President Reagan took drastic measures to fight against terrorism. He ordered the bombing of terrorist stronghold in the Middle East. He ordered US special forces soldiers to infiltrate and destroy terrorist cells. He made it very clear that the US was not going to tolerate any terrorism. Reagan was the President who made it a policy not to negotiate with terrorists. What ever happened to Jimmy Carter? Well he joined Habitats for Humanity and lead several relief efforts in Africa. Jimmy Carter invariable favors pacifism over confrontation. It is no wonder why he denounced Israel's move to attack Lebanon. Is he insane? No. Is he a overly idealist man? Yes. Jimmy Carter is a overly idealist man in a very unidealistic world.
