Sharks are fiercer predators and are interesting because of this.
Dolphins are friendlier and show more curiosity towards us humans - that makes them more fascinating to me. They are also intelligent beings.
Wikipedia gives the following information about dolphins:
"Dolphins are aquatic mammals related to whales and porpoises, famous for their intelligence, apparent compassion, and joy. The name is from Ancient Greek δελφίς delphis meaning "with a womb", viz. "a 'fish' with a womb". A group of dolphins can be called a "school" or a "pod".
See:

This surely has to make them the "best."
Hope this helps:>)

Depends what you want from them!
Both dolphins and sharks can be trained.
Dolphins are said to be sensitive to energy emissions - ie from a human body, and through their own naturally strong energy structure or sonar emissions can create balance in a human energy field, so certain people would feel better, or feel healed after spending some time with dolphins.

You can't really compare them as whole groups. Each species is different.
For example Bottlenose dolphins are intelligent, cute, enjoy casual sex and are bullies! They have been known to beat up porpoises, many have washed up on British beaches.
There are some species of sharks which are dangerous, ferocious predators such as Bull or Tiger sharks, but there are also harmless one such as Rays and Nurse sharks.
Personally, I think sharks are misunderstood. I went cage diving with Great Whites in South Africa and we couldn't use air tanks because the sharks wouldn't come near the bubbles!! Film and TV can give people the wrong impression of sharks but make dolphins seem all cute and cuddly.
Then again, everyone's entitled to their own opinion............

I agree... sharks have been completely misunderstood. Few sharks are really dangerous. They have bad eyesight and often attack humans mistaking them for seals (compare the silhouette of a seal and that of a human on a surfboard and you'll see what I mean), and usually the shark, will take one bite then swim off. It has been discovered recently that sharks use their mouths to explore, like us with our hands. Unfortunately, they are not very delicate instruments. Sharks are (generally) shy and retiring, as are snakes, scorpiosns, spiders, and many other potencially dangerous animals which we have maligned.
