you must mean that guy that's been playing with Patti Smith lately. In fact he is on the live disc of the deluxe release (2005) of Horses, from Meltdown at King Albert Hall.

The answer is michael balzaray aka "flea". Arguably one of the best high profile bass players on the planet. He gets to show off his skills more on stadium arcadium than he was allowed on the previous two albums. He nearly left the band cos he felt he was being marginalised by guitarist john frusciante. I had a dream about flea last night. We were both monkeys and i was picking fleas off him while the rest of the chili peppers were having a chimps tea party. Just thought you'd like to know.

i know you have other answers saying it--but i had to say flea because he´s my all time favorite bassist he is AWESOME the most innovative bassist of our time, he did what most other bassists didn´t, which was make bass just as relevant, dominant and noticeable as the guitar
his bass licks are awesome
