Go to your local animal shelter or SPCA and look at all the wonderful dogs they have there....

most people got those dogs without fully thinking of all the work/commitment involved.. these dogs need loving homes but they also need homes who want them, and are willing to invest time with them. Dont get a dog for the wrong reasons. If you really want a dog rescue one of these.. be commited to going to obediences lessons and walking it daily - you will require a fenced yard and income incase of emergency vet care.

if you work an adult dog is better than a puppy...

I suggest you work on your marriage or possibly the dog will find itself looking for a new owner soon enough if you are divorcing... why is hubby going to the bar?? do you nag too much at home (I know I do...lucky for me - no bars in sight lol)
talk to him - remind yourself and him why you married each other

also NEVER get one from a pet store

I would love to have a dog too, but I work full time and it wouldn't be fair to leave a dog home alone all day. I had a supervisor who had a dog called Rosie, who she had to take to "doggy day care" every day. Rosie was very naughty so Helen was always getting phone calls at work to say "You'll never guess what your dog has done now!"

If you do get one, a. get it from a rescue centre, not a breeder or pet shop, b. DON'T leave it by itself all day, that would be cruel c. make sure your husband is happy to have a dog too. Maybe instead, or before, you could try volunteering to walk other people's dogs for them? Elderly people especially might find this useful - there are some who may feel they can only keep their beloved pets if someone else will walk them. So you may find this is beneficial for the dogs, the owners and you too.

Dogs are wonderful to come home to. I have and dog and she has been my best buddy for a decade now. If you do work long hours then you can find a doggy daycare for the dog. I took mine 3 days per week. If you love pets and want a companion then a dog is a great decision.

I think you should work out the problems your having in your life first. It's not fair to you, your husband or the pet to try and subsitute one for the other. Your husband should also want a pet regardless if he is home or not. And trust me from someone who has been there, it's doesn't work anyway.

Why not volenteer with a rescue group to occupy the time in between. Good luck

Usually kennels, advise people who work long hours not to have a dog, due to the care and attention of the dogs needs. Dogs get lonely and like companionship, often dogs who are left in the house for hours tend to become more badly behavioured, with soiling everywhere, breaking things and barking/whinging alot.

If you work a full time job, consider getting a cat. Dogs are needier emotionally. Of course the wagging tail to greet you is priceless. Cats are affectionate in their own way and take care of themselves for the most part.

Do you work a lot of hours though? Because if you do you need to rethink it as what will the dog do for really long periods of time on it's own and what about it needing walks when you're out?

I don't think any pet will be OK here. All the wrong reasons. You need to get together with your husband and hash this out. What would you do if you had children? They are alot needier than any number of pets you could imagine.

Just get a vibrator, it less money and work in the end, and it might make the husband jealous, so he'd be at home more!!
