A family member has asked if it's possible I can send them a flat screen by airmail, can this be done? I would have thought it's a bit risky sending something like that? Has anyone on here sent these kind of items overseas?

Well It can be done and can be sent thru airmail/bluedart/DHL/UPS.
But They Will charge a bit extra from you since its a large package and it will be really costly. You can just a make a call to any of the serivces above mentioned and just ask about the services . They can provide a more detailed clear explanation than us .

Various companies (UPS, Fedex, and of course, the Post Office) all ship overseas. You can buy insurance and have the item VERY carefully wrapped. It is risky and, depending on the country to which you are shipping, involves a bit of paperwork (with Federal Express being the most complicated, I've found). Also, there may be Customs fees on importing electronics. These are all things to be taken into consideration.
I would think that, in the end, you would be better to send them the money and have them buy the item in their own country. Don't forget that different countries use different electrical systems so not every item will work properly in another country.
Again, not knowing where you are shipping from or to makes it difficult to give you the best advice.

It depends on where you want to send it. Depending on where they are, it may actually be cheaper to just buy one there than pay for overseas shipping, which can be quite a lot of money if you want it within the next month.
If you're sending the package to a generally civilized country, it isn't particularly risky, provided you pack it well. Shipping it in its original packaging should be fine.
Again, if they're in either Europe or Japan it could be cheaper to buy one there.
