Check that your stylus (needle) isn't worn and check the tone arm balance. Unless your record player is a kids type, the tone arm balance should be adjustable. Bear in mind that if the tone arm is front heavy. (the part that holds the stylus is heavy,) then you'll wear out your record. If it's too light, (assuming you have a good stylus,) it'll skip out of the groove.

It sounds like the arm is out of balance. There is probably an adjustment near the end of the arm that connects to the base to inclease the weight on the stylus.

as odd as this may sound tie a small nut to the top of it and if you don have any use some small washers or whatever you can find that would whey it down but make sur its not to heavy or it will scracth your records

we used to tape a penny on the top of the arm to keep it weighted down and to keep it from skipping. Also are you sure that you have it set on the right speed?
