Pot is nowhere near the evil, pernicious drug that has been (badly) portrayed in films.
Prior to 1937, it was prescribed by doctors as a way to relieve depression.
It certainly is nowhere near as bad as heroine or cocaine, but is classified in the same category.
People want to decriminalize or even legalize it as cops have better things to do than chase down some weed huffers.
But that is not going to happen any time soon. Look at all the problems with alcohol.

Because they're stoners who don't want to get caught.
Legalising it would encourage more people to do it, that much is obvious. It's a stupid idea, cannabis is proven to cause brain damage and mental illnesses, the last thing we need is more people running around with the memory of a retarded goldfish.
They also claim it would mean less work for the police. Such an argument is pointless. Legalising murder would cause less work for the police, yet I see few people queueing up to get that decriminalised.
The truth is, the only people who want, or can see any sense in, it being legalised already take it. They don't want to be seen as criminals, but instead of stopping they want the law changed.

I have never smoked a joint or used a bong, I dont drink or smoke tabaco, But i belive that cannabis should be legalised.
First of all if it is legal then the Govenment can put rules in place to make sure the weed being used is good stuff, and not been mixed with junk that would make it more harmful.
Secondly, The govenment would be able to Tax the joints being sold as they do with tabacco, this would be a few million a year and could go to important places, like schools and hospitals.
Third, Weed, is less dangerous and less addictive than cigeretts, yet they are illegal, as far as i know no one has ever been arrested for being a stoned driver, but drunk drivers kill every day. it is safer and helther than these tow drugs that are legal.
finally, if the govenment dosent make it leagal for all, i strongly belive that doctors should be aloud to prescribe it to some as it works as a pain killer, and quite a potant one at that.
Yes, ive never smoked pot, but lets make it legal

It's not that its important (well to some it is) but its more about people wanting the right to enjoy it without feeling like a criminal. I don't see the justification for not legalising it when tabacco and booze are. I wouldn't say all drugs should be legal and I think most drugs are illegal for a reason but pot shouldn't be. It would also mean it would be off the black market and regulations could be put in place. I've tried it and I don't feel like a criminal.

Here in Canada many years ago there was a commission that recommended decriminalizing pot about 35 years ago. At that time it was suggested that pot, not be legalized, be decriminalized due to the number of people who were getting busted for simple possession. I am not an advocate of this either way but have told all my three sons that I would much rather they smoke a joint than drink anyday, as the violence doesn't accompany pot like alcohol. Anyway, I think that there would be a lot of complications in legalizing pot as then you would have to legalize all the derivatives from it, ie: hash, oils, tai sticks. But simply decriminalizing it for simple possession would be a benefit for all of society as the majority of people who are busted are the young and the future of our world and we don't want them all to have criminal records over such a minor thing as possession of a couple of joints. Plus just the taxes alone that the government would make on selling this product would be large and would help out our health care system.

First, it was legal until the early 1900's when a Mexican outlaw Panco Via was terrorizing both sides of the border. At this time the cotton industry was in a slump also with hemp out producing cotton. We had hemp rope, clothing, etc. Congress outlawed cannabis in all forms to protest the Mexican outlaw and to allow cotton to get back on foot. You have two groups, one that wants cannabis for smoking legalized and the other group wants hemp production back. Hemp is really low on the drugs that make you high while cannabis has higher levels of HCH.

If everyone smoked weed on a Friday night instead of drinking, there would be less fights out on the streets.
They should legalise acid/magic mushrooms too. It'd make this miserable world a damn sight more exciting. LOL

I think that if canabis was legalised the government would be harsher on dealers and just slap a load of tax on it anyway. So for all the smokers out there, it is probably just better the way it is.

We don't want it legalised! Calm and chilled as you may be when using it, the severe effects can reamain unseen for years. Having worked with people using cannabis alot, you see alot of mental illness caused by heavy cannabis use earlier in life.

Na I think it should be decriminalised and available in adult only areas IE Soho London, that way they are in control of the amount you could buy and the quality of the product. It would also stop alot of street dealing as people now know a safe place to go and grab a coffee and a jay and relax with others like minded.
