They get the wrong kind of attention. An educated and smart person doesn't need aggression to make his point, neither does he need it to survive.

In the caveman days, I would say yes, before language was around. And even now, the ability to be aggressive if one needs to defend one's self would help them survive under violent circumstances. However, now that we have language, I think assertiveness and diplomacy are more akin to survival. After all, aggressors will expire by either their own self destruction--stress is not healthy--or eventually making one too many enemies, sooner or later they'll *&^*%$# with the wrong person and meet their match..or have an entourage of enemies bent on sabotaging their existence...People who are aggressive on a daily basis, as in bullies, though they may get attention, they don't attract true affection...don't worry, don't let them make you feel low---know that the cruelty they practice will be their own undoing...karma...in the meantime, learn to be assertive, read some books on it, maybe take some martial arts, and gain more confidence because you shouldn't be made to feel low---if anything consider yourself a higher life form!

Aggression is not necessary for survival in general, though it may be an effective strategy in certain situations. The problem with that is you have to take a position of not really caring about the person on the receiving end of it.
As for the rest of your question of "why" or "why not".... If you like the metaphysical kind of angle, read the "Celestine Prophecy". The author came from a psychological background, but delved into topics of spiritual and metaphysical elements to life.
One of the "Insights" in the book deals with people using certain kinds of "dramas" or attitudes in dealing with other people and why. The insight basically describes the main classifications as "Intimidator", "Inquisitor", "Aloof", and "Poor Me" dramas moving from aggressive approaches to passive ones. It also describes better than any other book I've read the feeling you get from these kinds of interactions.
Check it out.

Look around. The world is not a peaceful place to live. Animals kill to survive. Tsunami, earthquake, typhoon, all kill thousands. The world is not the place for a patient and silent guy. It is a harsh world out there. Men hostiles against others, women, too. Competition, it is the key word in 'modern' business. You can't just be a nice hardworking guy who suddenly found himself at the top of the corporate ladder. No, there is no such thing as that. You've got to fight your way up. You've got to earn it. Be strong, or you'll be forgoten. Kill, or be killed. Amen!

Aggressors have gained attention because they are loud and obnoxious. Obviously the little quite guy in the corner is not this, guess who stands out in a crowd, the loud guy. It is because they are loud that they are noticed. Human nature is a funny thing.

Aggression is not always a necessity I mean there are alternative routes to go. To me people need to learn to be assertive not aggressive. agression unfortunatley gets more attention because it is louder!

Yes, it is important, but not in all aspects of a relationship. A woman wants a man who can protect her, and it takes some agression to be able to be an alpha male.

i believe so....if you're not aggressive or assertive....then people will walk all over you....you need to be able to speak your mind and say "no" at the right time...you need to be strong and assertive and sometimes aggressive to be able to survive...it's just a matter of being heart louder than others
