This is for my father. He was drafted into the German Armed Services during WWII. After the war. He saw what the SS did in
the concentration camps, and remains to this day, a bitter and
broken man.
Personally, I think Hitler was influenced by Satanic men.
Satanists do not believe in Satan. But in other-worldly influences,
and earthly influences which they manipulate to their own ends.
The swastika was the symbol of the Wheel of Life turned backward. Which is the practice of evil men. It was an attack on
humanity as a whole.
It is believed that at one time, all the world fell into idol worship. Except for a small remnant within the Jewish Nation, that kept
the faith in the Source of Life we call the One God. Thereby
recieving the benevolence of this Divine Diety.
Since Hitler was Satanically influenced. He created an all out
assault on the Jewish people. But Satan, whether he is an individual, or the personification of evil. Is the Father of Lies,
and our True Enemy.

I liked Sprouts Mom answer. I have struggled with this question for 50 years. My only answer is that, out of fear, regular Germans kept quiet when their Jewish neighbors "disappeared". This is an excellent question, and although I don't agree with your answer, I give you kudos for asking the question!

Some people claim that the Holocaust was an unfinished job, that Hitler was too lousy a leader to effeciently carry out the agreed plan. Had he been able to exterminate the Jews, according to this school of thinking, current suffering and turmoil in the Middle East and the world at large would been avoided. Such people even link terrorism to failure on the part of Hitler to rid the world of the Jews.

First of all, Jews and non Jews were murdered in concentration camps and death camps. Second of all, there were other wars during which people were brutally murdered or ill treated. Just as a little example: in the 2nd of ether June or July 1998, 2 Yugoslav cops, S. Perovic & M. Rajikovic, as well as an Albanian national, S. Kuci, were abducted by Albanian terrorists in Kosovo Metohija. Kuci was beaten for 4 days and then locked inside a room flooded with water (and drowned). Perovic and Rajikovic were tied to a jeep and dragged to their death after Rajikovic's hands were cut into flesh stripes, and Perovic's ears, nose & penis were cut off. NATO bombers, who helped those Albanian terrorists by bombing Yugoslavia, are the ones who should feel guilty and ashamed.

This is a question that can't be answered thoroughly on Yahoo. Find out what camp your father was in, ask him what he did there. His answer shoulld be interesting. At least he appears to be remorseful. This is what makes one think that he had a lot more to do with the camps than finding out about them after the war...
Once you've determined what camp(s) he served in - just Google it. And prepare to be busy for days. There have also been books, memoirs, etc. on just about every camp.
Read about the Nuremburg trials, and the other smaller ones.
Satan had nothing to do with the Holocaust - it was one crazy man who managed to take over a Country and, through fear and intimidation, had all those "Good Germans" follow him - most of them to their deaths. How much of your father's family survived the War?
The German people sure paid a heavy price for their stupidity and greed, and needed the Jews to be the scapegoat for their actions. Jews have been scapegoats through millenia.

An interesting view. Maybe Satan did inspire him to target the Jewish people and treat them like mere animals, in his efforts to achieve personal notariety and acclaim.

After WWI, Germany experienced a Great Depression even worse than we had. The German people were ready to follow anyone who would promise an end to the Depression and prosperity to their country.

By targeting the Jews as being the reason for the Depression and proclaiming that ethnic cleansing of Germany was necessary to bring prosperity to Germany, Hitler had a mantra that unified the Gentile population of Germany; which would give Hitler and his evil minions carte blanche to perform their depraved acts.

On Aug. 19, 1934, a plebiscite in Germany approved thee vesting of sole executive power in Adolf Hitler as Fuhrer. Source New York Times.
The man mobilized the German nation. He decided to get rid of Jews. Isolated them and used them as slaves. All cruelty and massacre are part of history. The most unfortunate truth is all happened in 20th Century when people were more educated and democratic. There are contradictory stories but there is no doubt that events of large scale death and cruelty happened. To have full knowledge some good answers will be coming. You may also use Internet. Please remember that it was purely human issue.

Personally here is what I believe :

To legally win the election, Hitler and his party, the NSDAP needed an ennemy. Somebody, or a group of people they can blame for everything. He found it with the jews.

At the beginning of the '30s, Germany was, like in the US, facing a desperate fight for its economical survival. Peoples needed a ennemy and Hitler and his pal have one : the jews. With a good propaganda, he turn the germans on : Jews are our ennemy, we lost WWI because of them and so on...

Jews were their targets. But if it was another group, it would have been the same thing.

uh i don't know if that one statement is really true, Satanists do follow satan,i think your thinking of the pagans, and they are the ones that worships as far as i remember ,earthly things, not stepping on any ones toes. but don't forget Hitler was trying to have a perfect race, it wasn't just the Jews there were other groups there as well, there were also Jehovah's witness there too.its a shame so many people had to loose their life from one sicko.also as far as the symbol goes, it was also considered a symbol of peace in other countries, reason i know that is when my son was into pokemon cards and stuff they had one, and they didn't reprint it.

There are many theories about why Hitler did what he did. Many say he was personally assaulted and offended by Jews. I personally think he was crazy and that fed into a multitude of things.

Only reason he is a bitter and broken man is because Deutschland lost WW2.I bet he wishes he won the war behind closed doors.
