I use Verizon for just 'local' phone service. Prior to last month it was always approx. $30....last month it was $44 and this month it is $53. I have read the bill three times and can't figure it out. there are no long distance charges on it.

Call customer service and have them explain it to you. If they are increasing charges because of taxes etc they have to inform you in writing prior to charging the new taxes. If you are late Verizon charges you a late fee and interest....many phone companies do that. I got tired of the phone bill always increasing, it didn't matter which phone company I used...I switch to VoIP (Like Vonage) there are may of them out there. I get the same bill every month...never a surprise.
