Does 'the soul' have any substance outside of our conceptions. Is the 'the soul' merely a 'model' we have of ourselves that exists only in our mind; a kind of invented person who 'has' all of these traits we associate with ourselves?

NOPE. simple as that. cut anyone open and you will find lungs, a heart, stomach, etc. but no matter how hard you look you wont find a soul. its just a religious thing.

A soul is a fanciful concept that we humans are prone to believe in. No we do not have a soul.

A soul is like the air around us, it is ever-present although we do not have a capability to see it with our naked eye.
If we do not have a soul, then what creates conscience and emotions?

Energy can be created and changed form. But, It cannot be destroyed. Our brain and nervous system is a network of electrical impulses (Energy) that cause our bodies to function.
Since energy can't be destroyed. It must remain after you die. Perhaps, that is your soul.

the concept of soul makes sense only if you can know you are not just the body. until then it is speculation

i believe everybody has a soul its what makes us feel love and guilt and to know the difference between right and wrong

without a soul we wouldn't have a conscience,and when we die what we have learned is in our soul and left for others so our soul is eternal. if you don't beleve that then what is there
