The Microsoft security seems to be downloading and updating constantly. Does this do the same thing as the anti-virus software such as Symantec?

It's always good to have multiple layers of security. No one security software gets all the viruses out.

I used to use MS Antivirus, Norton Antivirus and AVG one time or another. Well Since I come across this new Antivirus I no Longer use any of the other ones. It is called Avast, It stays Resident all the time, it updates once a week to keep you updated, it's automatic, you won't even know it's there. To tell you how good it works, I reinstalled my System, Formated my Hard drive, Reinstalled WIndows and then Avast before I installed anything else and got back on the internet, It will do a Preliminary Scan after reboot, It found 7 Virus on boot up from just Microsoft Alone. So aparently Microsoft Packs their software with Virus, Spyware and adware. And best of all they have a Free Home Version that you can download, or you can buy the most recent and up-to-date version. Give it a Try and see what you think

Microsoft updates are no good for protecting further your PC. I recommend buying and installing pure anti-virus software for your computer safety. The only useful security program that Microsoft offers in Windows XP is Windows Firewall, which is still not a good choice.

I suggest you get McAfee Internet Security Suite. I've known its price to be $69.99. It should be a smart buy and install because it has all your security needs -- Anti-Virus, Firewall, Anti-Spam and Privacy Service. The other things you'll need is an anti-spywae program, like Ad-Aware SE and a disk cleaner program for further deletion of infected files.

Microsoft Updates are for the following:
Windows, Windows Components, All Microsoft Products like Office , Visual Studio, Internet Explorer etc. Hence these updates only do half the job of protecting you.

An anti-virus on the other hand protects your computer (and windows itself) from virii. So, inspite of regularly updating your windows, I suggest that you install a good anti-virus asap!

Also install spyware detecting and removing software for optimum protection. Check out Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, which is freeware and one of the best out there.

i have been utilising computing device for a lengthy time period, and the prevalent of virus checkers etc fluctuates a great deal. one 12 months norton might want to be the staggering, the 12 months after avg... etc. i might want to have stated avg, even if examining contemporary comments it threw up an negative lot of pretend positives, and did not encounter many new viruses yet in its database. the single which continually looked as if it would take position trumps became ESET smart protection. it is also very really user-friendly on equipment factors, even in comparison to different light-weight antivirus' alongside with avg. I at the moment use that one and extraordinarily propose it. if you're a scholar they supply 50% less costly too. once you're searching for a loose one then head for avg.

Though Microsoft is good, I recommend spending a few extra dollars for security from McAfee or the like.

If Microsoft (being free) was the best, the other companies would go under.

Nope, there is no prottection in Windows. I don't even download all the crap they send. I use a Antivirus and a Firewall.

a list of good antivirus programs: Kaspersky, NOD 32, McAfee..etc.. and I preety much only used BlackIce for a firewall.

You said something about SYmantec, Norton Antivirus isn't all that good.

No you need more protection. Most anti virus softwares only get rid of 70% of all your viruses. So you should get multiple anti virus soft wares.

Go here and follow all the steps in the first post if you really want a safe computer

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:
