Titanic, and Gone With the Wind. Gotta love tragic romance.
I also loved Passion of the Christ, for obvious reasons.
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, for the utter hopelessness of it, and Girl, Interrupted, for more mental hospital hopelessness. (Angelina Jolie at her best.) Pretty much anything tragic, hopeless, and sad. I would probably say the Notebook like everyone else, but I read the book and hated the way they butchered the story, as usual.
My absolute favorite of all, though, has to be The Pianist. So tragic, sad, and hopeless, and such a heart wrenching cry at the end, for all that has been lost.

For me the best movie is The English Patient. I love every second of it and it is a long, long film. Most of my friends think it is boring and too long, but I love the music and the photography, the light of the desert and the different layers of the story. You have a complicated love story where people behave like real people, she doesn´t want to hurt her husband and everyone ends up in pain, and where people try to find hope even in war and the injustice of the importance of your nationality in a war. The fact that Almassy was imprisoned just because his surname sounded like German when he was a Hungarian made me shiver, because that actually happens.
I cried watching it the first time when Juliette is watching the paitings in the church and when Fiennes carries his love in his arms crying through the desert, and when he talks of her as his wife, because she was that even if they never marry.
It is a special film for me.....others can find it boring if they want, for it is magic

Back to the Future (1985) - The most brazen call for a sequel imaginable. The stage is set for an eventual trilogy that continues to entertain to this day.

Rocky (1976) - A ring announcer tells a frenzied crowd that our hero has actually lost the fight that held us captive for an entire final act. In one dramatic move, two shy nobodies find their hearts and nothing else matters.

The Wizard of Oz (1939) - The revelation that nearly all the characters we've seen in Dorothy's fantasy world were drawn from her friends (and enemies) is magical.

The Myth of fingerprints, I like how its realistic in that its not completely resolved by the end of the film! The characters are all complex and the plots are interwoven, its funny yet excruciatingly sad at the same time!
There are all these sad bits about family relationships and the struggle to be close! Very touching!

The most emotional - Dancer in the Dark, starring Bjork and directed by Lars Von Thrupp.

The best film ever - Genevieve, or possibly the Titfield Thunderbolt.
