Let's say you had $1500 to perform a terrorist act. You had to kill as many people as at all possible within that budget. What would you do?

You could do a lot with $1500 - buy a machine gun and spray it about at a ball game or some similar crowded public event. Rent a van, fill it with homemade explosives and drive it into a high profile building. The list is endless and it'd require virtually no imagination or ingenuity. Even a complete numbskull could come up with something effective with hardly any effort.

The ease and relative cheapness with which you could do stuff like this and the noticeable lack of such events is a good indication of just how over-hyped the terror threat actually is.

Edit: It's really noticable that this question has so few responses, because it's clearly both interesting and controversial.

In fact the only other response has a fearful disclaimer top and bottom. Obviously the question is a theoretical one. Are we really that scared of our government hearing us say the wrong thing? And if we are, does that not raise some real questions about just how far freedom of speech has been eroded? Is there not something fundamentally wrong when we feel that way about our government?

I suspect someone will say that its just that they don't want to provide terrorists with ideas, but I really don't believe that's it at all. It's extremely doubtful that islamic extremists are trawling yahoo looking for tips, and in any event, cable news networks spend all day every day dreaming up attack scenarios.

its kinda dangerous asking this. big brother (the gov) might think that ur trying to get ideas for one. oh well, this is an interesting question. i would make several homemade, cheap smoke bombs (thats $300) some with gasoline. then i would buy dark clothing and a sledge hammer. (thats $400) find out a house that had a gun cambinet. then i would get my buddies and do a daylight theft of the guns inside by smashing the lock off while everyone was at work. then me and my trusted buddy would plant the smoke bombs in an average sized building, with only a few entrances, like wal-mart. we would have bought ammo from a store with a fake ID (ID work and ammo, $500) thats an extra $300 that goes to a remote system made from remote cars to trigger the smoke bombs. we sit at the entrances and wait for the people to come out. then we take some hostages and shoot others. we get away in a getaway car after taking out a lot of people with one hostage (preferably a woman) NOW LOOK BUDDY, THIS WAS A GAME. DON'T TRY ANY STUPID **** LIKE THIS, AND GET ME IN HUGE TROUBLE IF THE GOV SEES THIS, IM LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THIS WAS A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I would call the FBI about it.

They'll probably give you more money for ratting them out..
