Rust! cooling system needs flushing out . If you say it runs fine , i.e. does not get hot, the cylinder head gasket must be OK ( that can cause rusty looking water , but the engine would overheat ) you can buy stuff to put in your radiator to do the job . In UK we have some stuff called "Rad-flush" but I can't help you with US products. Do it now so you can get it nice and clean before the winter comes, so you can put antifreeze mixture in. Good quality antifreeze contains a rust inhibitor, by the way.

You failed to flush the system. The car has say a 11 quart system. You only changed a galllon I bet. There is still old deposits in the heater core & block. You need to drain the radiator and flush the cooling system. At any Pep Boys, Napa, Advance auto, etc. you can find a flush kit. Install and hook to a garden hose. Flush till clear water appears. You could pay a shop to do it as well.

The coolant is now ripe. Just like a banana coolant ripens with age.

Actually, the other answers about power flushing your radiator are correct. Get it done soon - I would go back to the place you had it done the 1st time and have them do it again for free.

It's just a little rust, go get some radiator flush and flush it out, use acid based cleaner , it will help, and make your auto happy to boot! Happy motoring.

Sounds like you have a partialy blown head gasket. It's alowing engine oil to pass between the oil port, and the water jacket.

1) Was\is the radiator cap all gunky?

2) Is your engine oil kind of funky looking. (milky)

Just changing it wont fix it. The system needs to be flushed clean.
