Do you mean why is science a key subject? Because it describes the physical process of how the material world fits together and works. It doesn't run on magic.
Lots of people find it interesting, if you don't I guess it seems a drag.

Some keyboards are set up to allow for scientific notation when the Science Key is pressed. This is how you can type the small "2" so you can type "H20" correctly.
