why do desktop icons change to blue 'e'? can someone give me a clue how to make them stay original ?

Blue E, i think you are refering to IE or internet explorer, all the html pages you have on ur desktop have a extension of HTML ot htm, or asp,....... they use IE program to open or execute, so the default program is IE. if you install Firefox by mozilla, they will turn into FOX icon.

I never had such experience but in my case some times icons moved.

I can give you two clue. Right click mouse on desktop in empty place then you will see various setting follow if you understand.

Or you could download a free(really good 0ne)Icon keeper I am using it and can say it is free and best. I think then your problem should be solved. I am giving you the link from where you can download.

Note: If we put cursor on Icon the color change to grey.
If you put cursor on icon and press F2 then you can also write name as you want. You can also change Icons just put cursor on icon you want to replace with new one right click mouse click properties then follow directions. Or I could also tell you Icon maker if you use you can make Icons from your own images that is also free utility.
