Go to a solicitors they will draw you one up and give sign & date it for authority. It doesn't cost much if anything, we paid £10.

Probably you are a US citizen who is attempting to marry someone from a country which requires certificates of singleness from both parties. This is the situation in Poland, for example. You can go to your country's consulate, wherever you are, and get full info on what to do. Here in Poland, the procedure is that you have to swear an affidavit of singleness at the embassy, and then present that in your documentation, in order to get married.

It used to be you had to take it to court to get a special dispensation to do without the more usual document, so be prepared, they might expect that of you too, depending where you are. Especially if you live in a country where a separate civil wedding is required for legal purposes (even if you plan a religious wedding), you may need to start this process months in advance. Find out how long the 'line' at the courthouse is, and plan accordingly.

There may be one document that may prove that your single and that would be a tax credit award notice. They are sent out by the inland revenue if you claim tax credit. But if you dont have this document i dont see how you can prove your single.

what reason??
i have never been married and im single. and anything I have done I never had to "prove" that I was single. I just said im single. and that was it.

i dont think its written anywhere that someone is single. only written if someone was married, divorced, died thats the only documents that I know that are written down. not for being single.
we are all "single" before marriage, divorce. single when we die, if neither of those.
i will die being single. and its not "written' anywhere that im single.

I needed this too, when I moved to another EU country ... because I am Irish, I asked the local priest of the parish in which I grew up to write a letter stating I'd never been married, according to their records, and that was accepted by the relevant authorities in that EU country I was moving to.

If you're from the UK, it's more difficult. I've heard of women having to go to the UK embassy in The Hague to swear on bibles that they have never been married. Really.

Best way seems to be to get an affidavit. This is the only way. You have to declare/swear that you are single/never married. Some lawyer can help you out. It is simple, I suppose.
