I have a live oak tree that is really 4 live oaks that fused together many mnay years ago. One section/tree has fallen and has been removed by a tree crew. I'm looking for a patch, paint or seal that I can treat the exposed area and will allow the area to heal. The other three sections of this tree are strong and healthy. I don't want desease or bugs to cause me to lose the other parts of the beautiful tree.

PLEASE DO NOT SEAL THIS AREA!!!!! This will encourage the growth of bacteria and/or virus's within your trees. They heal better when left exposed. Yes, It will take a number of years but Live Oaks are very resiliant. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Office. This is where you will find an agricultural/forestry agent where you the homeowner can get a more detailed answer. Please do not seal....What area are you from?

A pruning sealant might work. You might also wrap a tree burlap around the exposed part for a short period of time to help it heal.

I think tar is commonly used. You need something that will be waterproof and prevent the bugs from getting to the bare tree. Do you have a horticulture dept. in you local college? Speak to one of the professors for absolute knowledge.

I believe you are suppose to allow the area to heal on it's own.
