If you can provide a map that would be really good. It would be even better if you lived there and could tell me what it is like to live there.

The Thames Gateway is an area of land stretching 40 miles eastwards from East London on both sides of the River Thames and the Thames Estuary. The area, which includes much brownfield land, has been designated a national priority for urban regeneration. It stretches from Westferry in Tower Hamlets to the Isle of Sheppey.
Scope

The Thames Gateway comprises parts of 15 different local authority areas in three regions of England:

* In the Greater London Authority area parts of the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley.
* In the East of England region (the northern section) the unitary authorities of Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea and the Essex districts of Basildon and Castle Point. The Essex district of Rochford is also included, because Southend Airport falls within its borders.
* In the South East England region (the southern section) the unitary authority of Medway and the Kent districts of Dartford, Gravesham, Medway and Swale.

I live on the edge of the Thames Gateway but nearly all of my work is involved in the development of the North Side of the Gateway. The majority of the area is derelict / former industrial land interspursed with protected greenbelt which means the general environment varies and can feel quite rural in places. The transport links are okay, but not great at the moment - they are due to get better as more development comes forward. Many of the areas closest to London, such as thurrock, are starting to be improved, and have special Urban Regeneration Companies to oversee improvements. The Government is throwing money at the area.
