I just feel that these "terrorists" can hide like little roaches and then blow themselves up and kill many other epople. It is hard to fight an enemy when they know where you are, and you do not know where they are. I do not see any other way than to just someone get them out of society, because they will never change their thinking that they are right in forcing their religion on the world. I accept other people and their religion, although I am a Christian, but would never kill a person over it. It is true that ignorance did exist in the past, but so did doing bad things to the black people. I just hope that in the future, we will have more intelligence, love and compassion for our fellow man. Inhumanities to man, is the sin of the human race. Hitler thought he was doing the right thing too, and others through history, and look how many were slaughtered. The Christians were thrown to the lions. We are just violent and maybe one day that won't exist, but I doubt it. Opinions??

Given current Western politics and policies, and the ignorance and arrogance that drive them, NO. I think that you are very correct that terrors, insurgents, or whatever label is given, cannot be defeated militarily.
There would have to be a dramatic sea change in our outlook to have any success in "winning the hearts and minds" of people in the Middle East and Third World. That is a hackneyed phrase that is used over and over again, but never applied.
Throw away this warped idea of forcing "democracy" down people's throats. Let's just make a distinction between "Good" government and "Bad" government.
Then, act accordingly, in the best interests of people who are allowed to articulate their own desires and aspirations. Route out corruption from Washington to Timbuktu; provide debt relief to the poorest countries; reverse the priorities between the military budget and the social & economic ones (We have enough mutions to blow up the world ten times over and what does it get us?). We need education and advocacy campaigns in the West to increase understanding and emphathy to other peoples and cultures and enormously increased social and economic develpment programs to resolve basic problems that breed poverty and the breeding grounds for discontent. Can ALTRUISTIC foreign policy programs be formulated and implemented to elemination prejudice, injustice and exploitation?
Given human nature is as it is; I suppose not. So, I return to your question and wistfully repeat my answer: No.

Let's say you were a little kid and the big kids controlled everything and had great impacts on you. Would you attack them directly. No, you would terrorize them in other ways.

Look, I hate what is going on and abhor the loss of innocent life. But, the countries that have terrorists keep saying, give us a little respect.

So, how can it be controlled, do not take an eye for an eye. It will not work in this case and will make it worse, the exact opposite result from what is said.

Watch 13 days when Pres Kennedy took a step back and stopped the normal rules of engagement. If he did not take the step to respect the Russian position, we would have had nuclear war. Watch it and learn.

Last, if Iraq were to try to help the USA and killed over 100,000 citizens in the process, we would do all in our power to kill them and rid ourselves of them.

The answers are not what you think, you have to change the process, with these circumstances.

“It is excellent to have a giant’s strength! But it is tyrannous to use it like a giant.” – William Shakespeare

Tell me what the US is doing? We have to realize there are 2 sides to the conflict and relinquish our POSITION and look to our common INTERESTS. That is how it will stop.

Yes, terrorism can be controlled and it has to begin with yourself...if everyone take the effort to put a stop to it there won't be anymore...and those who create terrorism should be blown up themselves when they are caught so that they will know what it is like to kill innocent people...fortunately, christianity practices non violence and that is the beauty of it!

Love conquers all.

As long as some people try to change others, the problems will exist. This is true about religion and politics.

Terrorists are people. Our only choices are to either understand them or to kill them. "Love one another" seems to point to the former and not the latter.

We have no terrorism in our country so I haven't been thinking about such a question. But I agree with you - how can you fight against terrorism when you don't know where or who your enemy is?

There was a similar question in here lately. It asked if we thought that organized crime (mafia, ...) should be considered as terrorism. I feel that it should and should be eradicated thoroughly. What do you think?
