They are designed by the italian design house pininfarina (They designed Ferrari's, Alfa Romeo's etc...) So the looks are good. The body is a 2 door saloon shape, so you lose the practability of the 4 door version, but it is still spacious enough for two adults in the rear. They are well equipped, even the entry level models have good spec. The 2.0 is slightly under-powered for a large coupe. 2.0 HDi engine has a fair amount of torque, but not a lot of top end speed. Its a very economical sports car. The 3.0 V6 Model is fast, but expensive to run... I would opt for the diesel model.
As far as Peugeot goes, this car suffers with a fraction of the problems of the 406 Saloon, Electrics being a big one. High mileage cars need to be serviced well, and check for paint finishes matching on all panels as there was a few smashed up and repaired cheaply. Engines are proven and should last well provided they are cared for.
Overall this car is a good purchase, but they depreciate heavily like any french car does, so don't pay too much for one.

The 406 Coupé is a modern classic, rare among modern French cars. No one wil love a Renault Vel Satis or Citroën Saxo in twenty years time, but a well-kept 406 Coupé will still be desirable. The 407c for that matter is horrible. You can get a 406c cheap now, and as long as it has a good service history you can't go wrong much. In 2002 they got a remake though (changed front), the older models are prettier but apparently less reliable. As it is however a Peugeot, and based on the very popular 406 models, it'll be far more reliable than an Alfa Romeo and parts are widely available, in Europe at least. It's not the best French car available today though.
It's given that crown to French car to the Citroën C6, for sheer comfort, design and of course space. Though it's competetively priced as compared to German business limousines like the BMW 8series, it's probably out of your league as well as mine. The Peugeot 406 Coupé is a wonderful car though. If you have one, I'll be green of envy. Especially if it's light blue.

Cracking motor with good choice of engines. Even the 2ltr Hdi is good if you want better mpg. However the 3ltr V6 with the 17inch wheels looks best sounds best and goes like stink. However it is a Peugeot and as such make sure all electrics work, they are prone to this sort of problem. A good looking coupe with reasonable rear space but hunt out the newest lowest mileage one you can afford. Take care of it as it could be a future classic along with is little sister the 205 GTI

there are prettier then the 407.roomy and classy but cheap to buy.watch out for poor interior finish poor electrics make sure they all work check the wheels for curb and scratch damage.look for panel fit to make sure it hasn,t been crashed or that the repair has been done properly.check power steering for leaks also checking its not knocking als put on full lock to make sure there is no knocking.check suspension for worn shocks as some do get lowered.if a manual make sure the gearbox does not clunk and that the clutch does not slip.make sure the discs are not warped.if is the 3litre it,ll be juicy on fuel the diesel is economical but i think the 2.2 petrol engine to be about the best of the engines.
