My husband was adopted when he was 3. He was given the name of his mother and that was it. We cannot find her anywhere. He has searched for 5 years and couldnt find a trace of his mother. We know her name. All he knows is, at the time he was adopted out she was very sick. She could have died but I cannot find an Obituary on her. We do not have the money to pay for expensive searchs on web sites or case workers. Is there a free and accourate web site that could help us locate her? If not her address, aleast if shes alive? She lived in Kentuky, if that helps any. And he has her old address, which is just a parking lot now so he cant trace where she moved to (note:if shes alive, that is). Has anyone found something you needed to find a lost relative? Also, he has another brother hes never seen before or had contact to. Any opinions? or links?

Really good place to start is FamilySearch.org. The search engine is free. Go to the link below, enter her name, search for whatever life event would help best. Enter her birthdate, an approximate one if you don't know for sure. It allows you to search a year up to plus or minus 20 years. The country you are in and other location information if you have it (don't really need it). When you click the search button, you'll be given a listing of information. You can look up for what may have been records of marriage as well. It'll give you, if the person is in the States, a state and county, which is a good place to start, then contact that county for information they may have. His mum may also be listed in any of the census years along with who she lived with. If she married, you'll be able to find records of that, too.

If you don't find her on what the search pulls up, look to the right side of the screen and you'll find the US Social Security Death Index. You should certainly find her name listed there if she has died. Will give you the location and date. You can do the same for locating his brother.

When you find her information, look around for any siblings she might have had. You can look up phone numbers and address for persons of that name online, then start making calls - Hello, I'm looking for any person related to a (give her name). Tell them why you're calling. I've found a few missing people that way.

It's a good place to start. Good luck.

The only other option you really have is locating a close friend of hers or a relative. There is the switchboard you can give them names and they run checks for areas of the country. you would have to google it, it is how my mother tracked my father down. She remembered his best friends name and found him and he still knew my dad. Its worth a shot, but no real web service will help for free.

Social Security can tell you if she is alive or not.
They will give her records if she is dead.
Did you ask the neighbors near the old address? Go ask preachers in that area?
Have you contacted the agency he was adopted from? Mine helped me.

Some things in life cost. the cheapest way would be to do a search on her for each state on personal records. you won't get the record but you will get the location of the women that do come up. that would narrow it down. I'm not one for psycics but you might want to give it a try. Everything happens for a reason. one way to find her is in his-self. she IS in him. he has to accept life for what it is and keep faith that one day this to will come to pass!!!!

If he has her name maybe check to office of vital statistics and look for her death certificate to see if she died. You may need a SSN also. You should be able to do that on the Internet at no or low cost.

If you know the name of the other brother, maybe you could trace him back. Have you run any ads in the newspapers in the area? someone that knew her might be able to help.
Good luck.
