Why do they call it "tossing Salad"?

I really do not know. This is something that my friends and I seriously ponder. I hope someone has a sincere explanation

I think she meant lickin butt, not actually tossing a green or vegetable salad. But, I don't know the answer to her question.

Cause that is what you do when you make the salad .You toss the vegies and dressing .

Well.....you take cucumbers, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and Lemons and salt. Then you take two Spoons and swirl it around the bowl......Tossin salad..........You may want to add some Cholula.
